St. Patrick’s Day / Green!

St. Patrick’s Day / Green!

Open Preschool Storytime
attendance: 63
handout: shamrock ellison die

My Hand Waves Hello. We seemed to extend this song a little longer than usual.  The people were streaming in, so it seemed best to just keep having body parts wave hello.
Miss Mouse: was hiding behind things related to St. Patrick’s Day. There were loads of shamrocks, a four leaf clover, pot o’gold with a rainbow, and leprechaun’s hat.   She was behind the darkest green shamrock
Miss Mouse was wearing her green dress (it’s very pretty).  She had a light blue hat with a shamrock on it, it was very couture.  This was her joke

What is green and stays out all night?
Patty O’Furniture!

It’s true.  Very few kids got it… and that’ s okay because Miss Mouse, sensing it went over their heads said

I-rish you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Finger play1: Clap.  Clap your Lap.
Book 1: Green Shamrocks by Eve Bunting.  Bunny grows green shamrocks in a gold pot to wear to the St. Patrick’s Day parade.  The day of the parade she wakes up and they’re gone.  Cute and just right.
Finger Activity: Roll Roll Sugar Babies
Book 2: Where is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox.  How can I express how much I love this book?
Song1: Drivin’ in My Car.  A hit, every single solitary time.
Fingerplay 2: Aram Sam Sam.
Story cards: Blue Hat, Green Hat. This is the Sandra Boynton board book. We scanned the pages, increased their size, and put them on story cards.  We love that silly turkey, Oops.
Flannel Board activity: 5 Little Shamrocks

5 Little shamrocks lying in the grass
along came a leprechaun skipping down the path.
He took a shamrock and put in on a door,
That’s for good luck, and that leaves four

4 Little shamrocks lying in the grass
along came a leprechaun skipping down the path.
He pinned on a shamrock for all to see.
That’s for good luck, and now there are three.

3 Little shamrocks lying in the grass
along came a leprechaun skipping down the path.
He picked one up and put it in his shoe.
That’s for Good luck and now there are two.

2 Little shamrocks lying in the grass
along came a leprechaun skipping down the path.
He picked one up and held it toward the sun.
That’s for good luck, and now there’s only one.

1 Little shamrocks lying in the grass
along came a leprechaun skipping down the path.
He left it lying there so there’d always be one.
That’s for good luck — can you find one?

I don’t have the source for that, but the paper it’s on is looking pretty old.
Good bye song: My Hand Says Thank You.
