Preschool Visit: The local school district’s preschool came for a storytime visit today. The preschool is open to anyone, but I believe it focuses on early intervention. There were a few storytime faces in the crowd, but most of this group aren’t library users. We just had our first snowfall of the year: 3 inches. Enough to have some fun…..
attendance: 55 plus 7 teachers
Miss Mouse: was hiding behind snowflakes.
Miss Mouse’s Knock Knock Joke: Knock Knock. Who’s There? Snow. Snow Who? Snowbody here, we’re outside playing. That is a Sharon original, thank you very much and you’re welcome to use it.
fingerplay: Clap. Clap your Lap.
Book 1: Snowmen at Night by Carolyn Buehner. There is a scene in Snowmen at Night where the snowmen zoom down the hill. Wheeee.
Fingerplay: Hickory Dickory Dock.
Book 2: Moo by David LaRochelle. Okay, you’ve read all about my successes with Moo. This was a different group. I saw the eyes gleam in the two girls who were in my storytime, and I had high hopes for this. A majority of the kids didn’t get it. I even heard one girl say, “what’s he saying?” I won’t draw any conclusions today but I found the very different reaction so interesting. (also, there is a scene in Moo where Cow zooms down a hill…)
Song: Driving in My Car by Ralph Covert
Fingerplay: Roll Roll Sugar Babie. We did different animals sounds, including a lion. Roar Roar Roar.
Flannel: Lisa’s Snowman. I can’t find any documentation for it….
Book 3: Jingle Jingle by NIcola Smee. Also, there is a scene in Jingle jingle where all the animals zooom down the hill in a sleigh. Wheeee!
Song: I’m a Little Teapot/2 Little Blackbirds and Humpty Dumpty by Wiggleworms
Book 4: If You’re Happy and You Know It by David Carter. Dear Scholastic, please reissue this book!
