Of Monkeys and Trees and Saturday Storytime Things

Saturday Storytime 8.3.13
attendance: 44
Miss Mouse was wearing her pigeon dress
Miss Mouse: was hiding behind monkeys. They found her right away so we needed to look for the cheese. Instead of yelling Miss Mouse, Miss Mouse! come out come out come out… We sang “the cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone, Hie Ho the deerie oh, the cheese stands alone.”  Until we finally found it.
fingerplay: Clap, Clap your Lap.
Book 1:Sitting in My Box by Dee Lillegard One of my favorite titles
Song: Humpty Dumpty by Wiggleworms
Book:  It’s a Tiger by David LaRochelle. A newer title with just the right bit of scariness.
Fingerplay:  Roll Roll Sugar Babies.
Flannelboard:  Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
Song:  Five Little Monkeys by Hap Palmer
Prop: Five Little Monkeys sitting in a tree… those monkeys are lucky they’re quick…they all got away!
Flannelboard: Counting Crocodiles by Judy Sierra. I shortened the tale a bit…but that clever monkey made it to the banana tree…whew!
Book: If you’re happy and you know it by David Carter

Titles I didn’t use but intended to:

  • Book: Count the Monkeys by Mac Barnett My group was a little too young for this delightful title

Today in review: whew.  Much better than the last two storytimes I had.  The girl (from July) who’s mom left her in story time alone was back and so was her mom and baby brother.  They stayed the whole time and everyone participated.  So, that’s good.
