He’ll Be Coming Christmas Eve (an original song by me)

He’ll Be Coming Christmas Eve (an original song by me)

Ho Ho

A few years ago, I was looking at the incoming picture books.  I read She’ll be Coming Round the Mountain by Jonathan Emmett.    I loved how the verses told a story and it inspired me to write something similar for our Holiday Family Fun Night. We focus on all three December holidays and I needed a grand finale.

I personally loved it. It made me laugh and I had dreams of one day sending it to a publisher.  (But I know the chances of getting published are ridiculously difficult.) I shared the first verse with the Gingerbread Festival story time and someone asked for all eight.  I suppose that if I want the world to enjoy it, this is as good a venue as any.  If I wait for publishers to pick it up, I’ll be old.

I hope you enjoy this little song. Think of me when you use it in your library programs.  Tell your friends, co-workers, patrons you got this from Flannel Friday, the great community of librarians.

These are on story cards, with clip art and the text of the echo for audience participation…

He’ll Be Coming Christmas Eve by Sharon H. c2008

Gather round now, I’m going to tell you about a special visitor…

He’ll be coming Christmas eve, when he comes (Ho HO)
He’ll be coming Christmas eve, when he comes (Ho HO)
With a twinkle in his eye, he’ll speed across the sky
Yes, he’ll be coming Christmas eve when he comes (Ho HO)

And He’ll be driving eight reindeer when he comes (jingle, jingle)
He’ll be driving eight reindeer when he comes (jingle, jingle)
They’re called Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet Cupid, Donner   Blitzen.
Yes, He’ll be driving eight reindeer when he comes (jingle, Jingle, Ho Ho)

And He’ll be wearing a red suit when he comes (that’s sharp)
He’ll be wearing a red suit when he comes (that’s sharp)
It has a pretty belt, and it’s made of red felt,
Yes, He’ll be wearing a red suit when he comes (that’s sharp, Jingle, jingle, Ho Ho)

And He’s bringing you presents when he comes (one for me?)
He’s bringing you presents when he comes (one for me?)
If you’re naughty, there’ll be nothing so be good and you’ll get something
Yes, he’s bringing you presents when he comes (one for me? that’s sharp, Jingle jingle, Ho Ho)

And He’ll dance across the rooftops when he comes (steady on)
He’ll dance across the rooftops when he comes (steady on)
And even though he’s round, he really gets around,
Yes, He’ll dance across the rooftops when he comes (steady on, One for me? that’s sharp, Jingle Jingle, Ho ho).

And He’ll scurry down the chimney when he comes (tight squeeze)
He’ll scurry down the chimney when he comes (tight squeeze)
I hope the flames are out, cause he’ll really dance about,
Yes, he’ll scurry down the chimney when he comes (tight squeeze, steady on, one for me? that’s sharp, Jingle jingle, Ho ho.)

And he’ll eat milk and cookies when he comes (yum yum)
He’ll eat milk and cookies when he comes (yum yum)
He’s sort of on a diet, but he really wants to try it
Yes, he’ll eat milk and cookies when he comes (yum yum, tight squeeze, steady on, one for me? that’s sharp, Jingle jingle, Ho ho)

And We wish you a Merry Christmas this year (Happy Hanukkah)
We wish you a merry Christmas this year, (Happy Hanukkah)
We hope you had some fun, ‘cause now our day is done
Yes we wish you a Merry Christmas this year. (Happy Hanukkah, yum, yum, tight squeeze, steady on, one for me? that’s sharp, Jingle jingle, Ho ho)
