Grumpy 9.4.10

Grumpy 9.4.10

I think I was grumpy from not doing storytimes …
Saturday Storytime
attendance: 32 a lot of younger kids today with a few that were four and five.
Miss Mouse was wearing her green apple dress
Miss Mouse: had to clean up her room.  She picked up garbage (old cheese, empty glue, coke cans), found lost treasures (a stuffed mouse, bracelet, and some money), and put away her toys (pretty picture, rubber duck and a crayon).
fingerplay: Clap. Clap your lap.
Book 1: Llama Llama, Mad at Mama by Anna Dewdney I love the perspective of the knees and feet.  And the temper tantrum was just great!
finger play 2: Roll Roll Sugar Babies.  We did it in a whining voice and then in a laughing voice.
Book 2: I Love My New Toy by Mo Willems. Piggie lets Elephant play with the new toy.  Elephant breaks Piggie’s toy.  Piggie is very, very mad and sad.  They cry, we cried too. Squirrel discovers something about the toy and everyone is happy.
Song:  Hokey Pokey. You can’t be sad with this song.  And I remembered to mirror the actions.
Prop: Mr. Gumpy’s Outing by John Burningham He’s sort of grumpy, our Mr. Gumpy.  Mostly it’s fun. It’s also fun to say “muck about”.
Story cards:  Things that Make you Feel Good / Things that Make you Feel Bad by Todd Parr.  Someone else made these cards and I don’t know how the book ends, but we end with Good: storytimes!  bad:  end of storytime!
but we can’t end storytime without …
Book:  If You’re Happy and You know it by David Carter.

Titles I didn’t use but intended to:

  • When Sophie Get Angry, Really Really Angry by Molly Bang. I love that the angry pages are a fiery red and the better mood pages are cool and blue.
  • I Don’t Want to by Sally Grindley. Older (1990) about a boy who doesn’t want to do much, especially not to his new school.  It’s good but it’s long.
