Boom Boom, Ain’t It Great to Be Crazy!

Boom Boom, Ain’t It Great to Be Crazy!

Most of the flannel’s I present on this blog aren’t mine. They belong to the library where I work and have been created by people much more artisitic than I.  I’m just lucky enough to work with them.

I love singing in story time. And I love silly in story time. This is the best of both! If I needed to come up with a concept to justify using this in story time (and thankfully I don’t), I would point out that this is filled with rhyming words. Around here, though, the story time standard is that it be entertaining with kid appeal. Check.

Chorus:
Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy.
Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be nuts like me.
Silly and foolish, all day long.
Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy.

Way down South where bananas grow,
a little flea stepped on a elephant’s toe.
The elephant cried with tears in his eys,
“Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?”

chorus

Way up North where there’s ice and snow,
There lived a penguin and his name was Joe
He got so tired of black and white,
He wore pink pants to the dance last night

(everybody sing a long)
chorus

Way out West where the cowboys ride,
There lived a horse who cried and cried.
He got so sick of being sad and blue,
That he grew some wings and off he flew

chorus

In the Far East where pagodas are
There lived a panda bear who drove a car. (he did??)
He drove over hills, into a lake
“Whoa,” said the bear, “I forgot to brake!”

Everybody sing!

Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy.
Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be nuts like me.
Silly and foolish, all day long.
Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy.

For some reason, I cannot find the elephant… someone borrowed him for something, I guess.   I thought I’d show you all the pieces together… we’d put the penguin up while singing, and then add the pants, etc.

I think it is pretty great to be crazy!

  1. I shout it from the mountain top: I work in a great place! Thanks.

Katie: how big is the staff in your department? We’ve had times where we’ve all been assigned to create — or re-work a flannel board. That’s really helped in building things. If you’ve done it once or twice, it sort of becomes easier and you know what to look for!

  2. Sharon, this is super fun. I learned this song at camp (but couldn’t remember the verses) and I had never thought about making it a flannel. I love your pieces!

Also, Katie, I share your wish that my library had a flannelboard library. When I get here we had 2 and they were both from the 70s! We have TONS now, but it has taken me almost 2.5 years to build it.

  3. I learned that song in the library when I was little! I still love it very much. I wish I had a flannelboard library to work with — I’m currently building ours.
